Blue Bell was set up by celebrated Producer & Mixer Barny Barnicott in 2008. In the years since it has been used only for his own private recording and mix projects, but in 2014 Miloco partnered with Barny to launch the studio as a commercial venture and a brilliant addition to the limited choice of residentials close to London. Better still is that Blue Bell's rates make it a very affordable option for bands looking for a creative escape from the city.

The studio has recently become residential and now has 6 newly refurbished bedrooms, a private lounge, kitchen and dining room. Immersed in the beautiful countryside of South East England, Blue Bell Hill is the ideal recording getaway from the capital.

One of the many great features throughout Blue Bell's studio and accommodation is the abundance of space and light. The daylit control room is based around a 96 Channel SSL G Series which was purchased from the now defunct Eden Studios. The 50 sq m live room has an adjacent 10 sq m booth which can double up as a programming room and a small amp booth. The live room is also packed with a wealth of synths, organs, and various instruments.

When you enter the house there is a stairway on your right leading to the accommodation and a corridor lined with Barny's best-selling framed discs to the left. At the end of the corridor is the entrance to the studio where you walk into the large live room which is naturally lit through some French windows. This brilliant tracking space was built onto the building in 2012 to fulfill Blue Bell's potential as a great place to record albums. And that is exactly what it is, with vintage keyboards lining the walls of the room and a great collection of guitars hanging from the walls above. You have just under 50 square meters to play with here, plus an additional booth measuring close to 15 square meters and which can double up as a programming room. A decent selection of microphones is on hand to record this fantastic collection of backline.

To the left of the main studio entrance is a door leading to the control room. This is the original studio built into the old part of the house, and is where the 96 channel SSL 4000G console (ex Eden Studios) lives. A range of outboard serves mixing sessions well, and there is a Pro Tools HD4 rig with 24 in / 48 out housed in a separate machine room. The control room lets lots of sunshine in through a large sky light.

On the opposite side of the live room to the control area are the large French windows that light the studio gloriously during the day. They also lead onto a private patio which is great for the sunnier months.

Blue Bell Hill is based in a large house surrounded by beautiful Kentish countryside. The upper level of the house has been converted into a spacious and modern flat for clients to stay in during their residential session.

The accommodation consists of a great, open-plan kitchen/dining/lounge and six bedrooms; three doubles and three singles. All rooms have views of either the back garden or the paddock at the front of the house, creating a tranquil living atmosphere.

Recently refurbished to a high standard, this is a great place to retreat to after a day's work in the studio. The accommodation is serviced weekly, it is offered as a self-catered flat

The studio is located on the picturesque Blue Bell Hill between the towns of Maidstone and Rochester in Kent. It can be reached by car in less than an hour from central London, or by train and cab via Chatham rail station.

You'll be located just outside the quiet village of Bluebell Hill, with stunning views and walks on your doorstep. There is a great pub nearby, and the town of Maidstone is just 10 minutes away by car. You can even head back to London for a night with ease.
